Spring Repair & Replacement
Broken torsion and extension springs replaced safely, usually same day.
Broken torsion and extension springs replaced with correctly rated, cycle-tested hardware — never a guess from the truck.
We weigh or calculate the door before selecting a spring. An undersized spring shortens opener life; an oversized one makes the door unsafe to operate manually.
Springs are replaced in pairs on double-spring doors so the balance stays even and the second spring does not fail weeks later.
How a spring failure shows up
- A loud bang from the garage, then a door that will not lift
- A visible gap in the coil of the spring above the door
- The door feels enormously heavy by hand
- The opener strains, lifts a few inches and stops
- The door drops fast instead of staying where you leave it
- The top section is flexing or bending as the opener pulls on it

How we replace springs
Springs are sized to the door's weight, height and cycle expectation — not to whatever fits the shaft. The wrong spring will lift the door but leave it unbalanced and wear everything else out.
On a two-spring door we replace both. The second one has taken the same number of cycles and will follow shortly after the first.
Cables, drums and bearings are inspected at the same time, since a snapped spring frequently damages them on the way.
After winding, we set the balance and test it by hand — a correct door stays put at knee, waist and shoulder height — then re-check the opener's force settings.
Spring systems
- Torsion springs
- Mounted on a shaft above the opening — better balance and control on most modern doors.
- Extension springs
- Run alongside the tracks; should always have containment cables fitted.
- High-cycle springs
- Rated for many more cycles — worth it on a door used several times a day.
- Matched pair replacement
- Replacing both springs together so wear stays even.
What affects the scope and the price
- Door weight, width and height
- Torsion versus extension configuration
- Standard versus high-cycle spring rating
- Condition of cables, drums and bearings
- Whether the top section has been damaged by operating with a broken spring
What's included
- High-cycle spring upgrades available
- Torsion and extension systems
- Safety cable installation
- Door balance and travel calibration
Safety note
Garage door springs hold a large amount of stored energy under tension. Winding or unwinding them without the correct bars and technique causes serious injuries — this is genuinely not a DIY job.
Springs are a wear component with a finite cycle life. Replacement is expected maintenance rather than a sign anything was defective.
