Garage Door Repair
Off-track doors, broken cables, damaged panels and noisy operation.
Repairs for off-track doors, frayed cables, dented panels, bent tracks and doors that will not stay open.
A garage door under spring tension is the most dangerous component on most homes. We isolate tension before any work and replace worn cables and drums in pairs.
Panels can often be replaced individually when the rest of the door is sound, which is a fraction of the cost of a full replacement.
Symptoms and what they usually mean
- A loud bang followed by a door that will not lift — usually a broken spring, not the opener
- The door closes crooked or one side lags — often a cable off its drum
- Grinding or scraping through travel — worn rollers or a bent track section
- The door reverses just before it touches the floor — misaligned photo-eyes or a travel-limit setting
- The opener runs but the door does not move — a disconnected trolley or a stripped drive gear
- The door has jumped its track after hitting a vehicle or an obstruction

How we diagnose it
First we disconnect the opener and lift the door by hand. A balanced door moves easily and stays where you leave it; a door that slams down or fights you has a spring or cable fault, and that is a different repair to an opener fault.
We inspect the full hardware path — springs, cables, drums, rollers, hinges, track alignment and the panel joints where cracks start.
Then the electrical side: opener drive, travel and force limits, photo-eye alignment, wall control and receiver.
Spring and cable work is done with the correct winding tools. These components store a lot of energy and are not a safe DIY repair.
Repairs we carry out
- Cable and drum
- Re-seating or replacing cables that have slipped, frayed or snapped.
- Roller and hinge
- Replacing worn rollers and cracked hinges — the usual source of noise.
- Track realignment
- Straightening or replacing bent track and re-setting the door on it.
- Panel replacement
- Swapping a damaged section instead of the whole door where the model allows.
- Opener and sensor repair
- Drive gears, logic boards, limits and safety photo-eyes.
- Rebalancing
- Correcting spring tension so the door holds position and the opener is not straining.
What affects the scope and the price
- Whether the fault is mechanical, electrical or a combination
- Door weight and spring configuration
- Availability of matching panels on older or discontinued doors
- Extent of impact damage to the track or frame
- Whether the door is safe to operate in the meantime
What's included
- Off-track and cable-drum correction
- Individual panel replacement
- Roller, hinge and bearing plate service
- Track realignment and reinforcement
Safety
If a spring has broken, do not try to force the door open with the opener. It will strain the drive and can drop the door.
Keep the emergency release cord accessible and know how to use it, so the door can be moved manually during a power cut.
